Grace

I consider myself a “wounded healer”. Through a path of exploring and learning what it means to support children in early childhood and special needs, I stumbled upon Play Therapy. I have never looked back. I have personally experienced the power of play and creative modalities to surface and empower healing of deep-seated wounds. It creates awareness of behaviours and thought patterns which then empower one to make choices. I have witnessed and continue to witness how play provides a powerful platform for a child or young person to explore deep unspoken needs and challenges. One session at a time, within a safe therapeutic relationship, the child is empowered to reshape their view of self, others and the world; empowered to choose positive change.

Experience

It is essential for you to ensure that you have a professional and ethical therapist that your child and you are comfortable with.

I am a certified Play Therapist, having completed the Post Graduate Diploma in Play Therapy, and registered with Play Therapy International. This allows me to work with wide range of difficulties in presenting conditions as well as provide group play therapy. I am also trained in the attachment play programmes created by Debi Maskell-Graham so as help parents strengthen their relationships with their child, from prenatal to early teens.

My experience and understanding children with neurodivergence and different learning profiles informs my intervention in the playroom as well as my engagement with parents of children with learning differences. Being certified in Autism during my training in early intervention for children with Autism, I continue to pursue training in Specialist Diploma in Supporting Learners with Specific Differences through DAS Academy Singapore.

I am an MOE registered programme provider and registered with the National Instructors and Coaches Association (NICA) under NTUC. I have attained the Active Aging Centre (AAC)-friendly certification with NICA, having completed the training that positions me to provide suitable programmes to seniors at AACs. I am fully certified First-Aid Responder.

Most recently, I have had the privilege to complete the PQ Clinical Supervision training by APAC, accredited by PTUK, so as to be able to support play therapists and other helping professionals through providing reflective supervision.

I have had the privilege to support and learn from children from diverse backgrounds and with varied presenting challenges or traumas. These include children who were:

  • experiencing bereavement and loss

  • exhibiting selective mutism

  • coping with diagnosis of differences such as Autism, Dyslexia, ADHD, ODD, etc

  • showing challenges in emotional and social regulation such as anger management, aggression, anxiety and poor socialisation

  • having difficulties engaging in school, including separation anxiety, school refusal, task refusal or non-cooperation with teachers

  • working through chronic medical conditions or physical limitations

  • adopted or fostered

  • facing transitions such as parents’ divorce, relocation, and changes in school

  • experiencing complex family dynamics

  • under child protection services because of abuse, suspected abuse, harsh punishment or witnessing family violence.

A huge part of the journey is with parents – the MVP (most-valuable-player) in every child’s life! I work closely with parents and primary caregivers to support the child holistically in their intervention programme as well as enhance family experiences and  increase shared enjoyment.
